86 Grand Wagoneer Rebuild/Restore (help)

Ok, So this is my first time working on a carborated vehicle and i'm not yet a great mechanic, so please be patient with me as I will be having a lot of questions.

My first question:
Does anybody know the correct bolt size on the exhaust manifold? The previous owner lost them.

Question #2:
Is there any way on getting better gas milage out of it without converting it to fuel injected? I'm trying to keep this as stock as possible so that i can start it in car shows when I have it fully restored.

Welcome aboard. On your first question I've got one of my motors apart and the exhaust bolt i checked was 3/8 x 1 & 3/8, but i think you can go a little longer like 1 & 1/2.

Question #3
35 thousandths - .035, 25-30 ft lbs (wrench tight)
Invest in a Haynes or Chilton repair manual, It's got almost everything you need to know.
Question #4
Simply put, it's better as long as you have the money to spend on it.

As long as you like incomplete and some incorrect information, this would be fine. It is a decent manual for $5 but don't think it will solve all your problems. The best manuals to buy are these:

They are made for your year and carry all the info you will need... worth it, I have one for every year FSJ I have.

Thank you all!
We have a Chilton's for my husband's eclipse, and we've had a few problems with them.

And the money for the synthetic isn't too hard. My husband works for NAPA and they give great employee discounts. All we use is Mobile One oil and filters. As my father-in-law works the oil rigs, we have a lot of information concerning oil that not many people know but i would be more than happy to share.

Question #5:
Other than replacing the Exhaust and Intake manifolds with steel (replacing the cast iron they are now) what else can be replaced with something lighter that is as close to being just as strong?
