85 Wagoneer Questions
Hey,
I'm looking at an 85 Wagoneer with 80,000 original miles. My question is what kind of 4x4 system it has. There is a sliding switch under the dash marked 2 & 4 wheel drive. Also there is a pull lever on the driver's side floorboard marked 4hi and 4 low. The vehicle has automatic locking hubs. Is this a forerunner to select trac? Thanks. Bryce

this was the last year they used a vacuum lock transfer case. Most people prefer pre 83 or post 86 since they do not have this transfer case. Also some people just change out axles, etc from the newer ones to get away from this setup. I personally would suggest getting an 86 or newer since you will have much less hassles and they also won't have the faulty ammeter in the dash either so there is no risk of fire.
