84 wagoneer axle swap

I have a 89 yj with a 350 and unfortunately d30 rear that is just waiting to explode. I just got a line on a 84 wagoneer that I could pick up for free (sort of, I'd have to get it from Va to CT). I believe it has d44s front and rear.

Has anyone done this kind of swap? Is it worth the hassle?

Thanks
JM

Your rear axle is actually a dana 35c.

The dana 44 is a fairly common swap if you google it you should be able to find most of the info you need, if you plan on bigger tires and lockers it will be worth the hassle to go 44 or stronger.

An 84 Wagoneer if it is the full size Grand Wagoneer will have an AMC 20 axle in the rear. These were used from 80-mid 86. It is not the same 20 as in CJs, it has one-piece axles as is as strong as the 44.
