84 J20 Transfer Case Vacuum Line
My Grandpa has a J20 with a 208 transfer case. There is a vacuum hose coming up from it, but we are unsure where it goes. He says it won't shift into 4wd. I would like to old guy to not get stuck at the bottom of his driveway this winter, so any help is appreciated.

Edit: I don't know. Maybe you could try to get up under it and use a pair of channel locks or something and try to see if you can shift it into 4wd by the shift lever, maybe also after disconnecting the shift linkage.
Good luck with it.

NP208 didn't have vacuum anything. Just a breather hose that goes up to the firewall. Could be the linkage is frozen from lack of use (I spray mine down with PB'Laster once or twice a year) If it's auto and all you get is grinding, then the trans clutches are fried. Putting the trans in neutral sometimes works while rolling slow, but shutting the truck off, moving the lever then restarting is the only way my '84 would shift.
NP208 has locking front hubs from the factory. |
