I own a 78 cherokee with the 285 in line 6 and put a new starter in it, well now it won't start, i have power and i have a spark but for some reason it won't crank over, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a ground problem or maybe a solenoid.

I have a new starter in the Jeep... a new alternator... and I just replaced the battery cables... I am getting power, but there is still not enough to turn over the starter. I had a mechanic look at it and he could not even figure the problem out... so i am not sure what I should do now... any suggestions??

Is the starter grounded to the frame or batt? If you hear a click and no crank, possible sticking solenoid, there is also a wire that goes to the coil form the "S" terminal on the starter I believe. No click when turning key=bad conections.
