1988 Jeep wont start

Help..tried to start my Jeep..it cranks up, lights work,fuel pump goes on, but it wont start. It cranks up great..had battery checked, its fine..getting spark from spark plugs..nothing from coil..how do I know if its my coil or ignition module?..its my only transportation and I need answers quick.

All it should need to run is fuel, air and spark. If you are getting spark at your spark plugs, I wouldn't think it would be the coil or the module because I believe if either go out, you don't get any spark at all.

You say the fuel pump goes on (must be an electric fuel pump?)... Are you getting fuel at the intake? Just because it is making noise doesn't mean that it is working.

You might want to post this in the XJ forum since the full-size Cherokees were only built from 1974-1983. You might get some more educated responses...

If there is no spark from the coil, the plugs aren't getting anything. 9 out of 10 times it's a crank position sensor. (top of the bell housing on driver's side) It's either dead, wires corroded or melted to the exhaust manifold (because someone did work and didn't put it back where it's supposed to be)
