1988 GW Electrical Problems!!!!

So here it goes- 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (fyi thanks Carnuck for your reply to my post several months ago, it was a loose connector), driving the other day, fuse box started to smoke. Power Accessory circuit breaker melted area around fuse box. Dropped wires down from the box and installed a 30 amp fuse. Worked fine but fuse blew. No tail lights now as well. Not sure what direction to go in with this but figured I'd inquire if anyone has any suggestions. I've got the electrical service manual and have been reading it. Rainwater gets in most of my doors so I'm replacing the window wipes because I feel that the water might play some role in this....

Sounds like the flexjoint at the tailgate has chewed through and is shorting out. I unplugged mine on the frame under the driver's side. Then I scored a Crown hand crank kit for the rear window. (haven't seen any around in quite a while)

Thanks for the advice. Finally, I've got a full weekend to devote to the truck. We'll see how it goes.
