1977 chief lift questions

i have what i assume is a stock 1977 cherokee chief. It has 31x10.50x15 tires. I thought I read on another link this size tire would not fit on a stock chief. I have plenty of room for these tires. My question is do I have a lift or is it stock?

If I remember right, some of the years had anywhere from a 1/2-2" factory lift on them...maybe it was only the 78-80 ones I'm not sure

Also are the black fenders stock? I've never seen a stock truck painted like that before...

I believe they are stock. I have seen pictures of others painted like this with the same fenders.

Black fenders were part of the chief package. Everyone I've had has had 31" tires. I think the w/t (also part of the chief package) came with 31's, while the n/t came with smaller, like the wagoneers

Looks factory to me.

Height is about right, and except for the hood and cowl, the black graphics are original. Wide-track Cherokees (like this, with fender flares) came with big tires like this. Learn more about the wide track and narrow track models, and it will be clear.

Somebody was proud of this Jeep - they polished the heck out of it. Or maybe it got a lot of direct sun, and they tried to rub out the failing paint.

The paint looks like your average long term sun damage to me. I wouldn't suspect the missing paint to be the result of anyone trying to rub it out. I have a '69 Chevy pickup with paint like that from just sitting out in the sun.

People are now trying to replicate that look on older trucks, calling it "patina".

Would I need to go with a 4" lift to fit 33's or will they fit as is. If I went to 35's what I am reading I will ned a 6" lift. What other issues would I have? Drive shaft, finder rub or spring rub?

Pictures and descriptions of tires and lift here: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=76709

33s should be fine with no lift.

I think 31's where stock on a chief! I have one they come stock in a two tone paint job, always stock wide track, and cool badges! I think they came black/blue black/red white/yellow maybe a few colors I missed but I had the blue/black but it's all flat black now
