What engine will bolt into a 75 J10 with a 258 straight 6 and 3 speed? The straight 6 doesn't have the power I would like to have if I keep the truck....
Wondering if something like a small block chevy, or what AMC engine would bolt in????
Any of the AMC V8s would be an easy swap - specifically the plentiful 360 V8 or the somewhat rare 401 V8
Both have way more power than the 258 and use the same bolt pattern. ALso, getting all the little "detail" parts would be super-easy because you could just go rob them off practically any FSJ in the junkyard. These things are plentiful and most of them have the V8s in them.
FSJs include, Wagoneers, Grand Wagoneers, J-trucks, Cherokees and M-715s
Just watch out for rigs earlier than 73 that may have an AMC 327 V8 or a Buick 350 V8 - those will be more difficult to mount up to your tranny and are less common.
