1966 J3000 Pictures (advise sought)

Hey folks,
Sorry for the first post asking for advise...I am not a virgin on the jeeps, had a 79 CJ7 for a couple of years and just got a 98 Cherokee 4.0L from the inlaws...
Now I am driving down the road and look over at the barn that had this thing parked at for years and it is sporting a for sale sign. Have always liked the look of the rig..

I have been doing a little bit of research on the gladiator trucks and such...I believe the smaller back window is somewhat rare?

Anway, I took a bunch of pictures of the truck...Couldnt really find any rust anywhere...Is there specific areas I should be targeting? I have yet to put the coveralls on and climb underneath..

Would love to hear what you experts think on the photos, suggestions as to where to look for specific issues etc. etc. The price seems pretty fare (3500) I have yet to hear it run or take it for a drive as the owner is out of town for a few weeks. It has only been driven once a year for the last 6 years, prior to that I am not sure.
Also, the odometer reads just over 18 K...Any clues to look for if that may be actual...I see the steering wheel may actually reflect that may be actual, the seat is very firm but that could have been re-upolstered but does look original..
If I purchase, my plan would be to make it a reliable daily driver type rig and then pass it on to my son in a few years when he turns 16...Would have no plans to beef it up, but only keep it stock..

Once again sorry for the first post asking advise, but atleast ya get a bunch of jeep porn pictures to go along with it..and you can send me to take more shots of it also, as I got a few weeks before I can actually make a deal on it..

Thanks a bunch for you advise!

Wow that thing is clean. One of the worst places for rust are the floorboards. lift those mats in the front and see if there is any damage. The little bit of metal showing on the trans tunnel looks good but you never know whats under those mats. One other area I have seen a few have problems with is body mounts rusting out. Other than that, it looks pretty solid. I've never been a huge fan of the rhino grille, I think it makes the front end look way too big.

Was able to pull up most of the matting today to take a peek...Looked and felt rock solid...When I get under it will check a little deeper in the corners and also check the body mounts..It was a little too wet today but I did notice it is sporting new exhaust and pipes, all stock.

Rhino grille? is that just the chrome vs. painted?

They came both ways, chrome and painted.

I am not sure it was special ordered, I have seen many trucks with the 6-cylinder as well as the Vigilante. Parts aren't super easy to find but they are still out there.

Stuff that old, it is almost impossible to know if it was factory or added since it looks period correct.

The guy is out of town and will be back the day after Thanksgiving..I will have to drive by it atleast 3-4 times this next week..I am sure I'll be stopping each time, checking it out...

Any suggestions you may have on things to look at or for?

I take it that the price seems OK for those that have read this...Hopefully it will run and drive as good as it looks..

The 327 is not an easy engine to get parts for. They are available, but not readily available.

My dad has a '66 Rambler Ambassador with the same engine and most things are a special order.

Looks like its all there! The seat and engine have been redone at some point. Maybe he has hardened ex valves? See what was done, this could save you some $$ down the road. Looks like it's been repainted from the pics. I like the extra tanks and the winch! Look at the clock! Cool You even have the transfer case indicator lights! This would be a very cool truck.

Here are a few shots of mine,

Thanks for the reply....Hopefully the current owner can give me a little bit of history on the stuff that has been done..When I talked to him on the phone he didnt sound like he knew a whole lot about it..He said he traded a guy for his Town and Country for the J3000 and it has been in his fancy barn since...

Would love to see photos of the rest of your rig..

Ottoloader, I am sorry but I am going to have to be the one to tell you that that is a dangerous vehicle. It is so deadly I am surprised you are not dead. I being the awesome jeeper friend that I am I will offer my services to dispose of it for you. I will swing by and pick it up so that you will be safe. No thanks needed it is only out of my concern for your safety.

A little update....as there have been a few PM's.

Anyway, the day after Thanksgiving came and went without a phone call from the owner that was supposed to get back in town...So, I called him the following week and since we had a pretty good snow event he decided to stay a snowbird and keep warm down south..

He has a quick trip scheduled back up north in January...I will have to be content driving by her and waving for 5-6 more weeks..
