Your not worried about how weak you just made your tie rod? That weld will be the breaking point if anything hits that or even a hard enough bump. Gotta do what you gotta do though.... Nice work on the mj! Keep it up.

Those welds. Oh god.

No penetration on the tubes with those spring perches. Cutting a tie-rod and butting them back up and welding? LOL

I also agree.

It looks rather unsafe.

I'm extremely curious to see if you will have issues with the drag link & track bar contacting or binding! I'm at 3" and have thought of the Wj swap, but a OTA track bar would eat my oil pan before full flex! So to do a crossover setup, I'd need the track bar in the stock location.

Please please please help me here man
Also you may try to sleeve the tie rod with pipe or DOM..just to keep it beefy & not have it bend or break!
I'm about to post up some pics. I just put the track bar on today, although it's not stock. It is adjustable but other than that no difference. what do you mean by drive way flex and lock both sides? like flex it by just jacking it up on each side and snapping a pic?

i actually wanted to sleeve the tie rod but didn't have anything readily available to do it with and this truck will NEVER be wheeled so i'm not concerned with bending or breaking it. ppl here can think what they want about cutting and welding it but i know for a fact that it's stronger than the pissy *** stock mj/xj tie rods.

Ya I if you drop the coils out you can do it with a floor jack and a few bricks or wood even. But basically flex out one side, turn full driver, then turn full passenger. Then do the same on the opposite side. Flex it & go lock-lock & check for clearence and if possible grab pics?

You don't NEED to pull the coils but its worlds easier! And it will help you see if you will run into any issues and also help me I litteraly have a full setup, minus Wj lower ball joints! So it will be a matter of bolt on and go. My knuckles even have spsacer already!

ok i gotcha. it's a little late in the the game to pull my coils back out now but once i have it back together i'll see what kinda of flex pics i can get out of it. the small floor jack i'm working with isn't gonna do much so i'll have to flex it out the right way though.

Not going to be wheeled? Great, I couldn't care less what you do at slow speed on private property. The fact that it's going to see public roads is the issue.

didn't get to flex it out for you today Desertxj. I began looking at my steering setup and I'm not able to run the stock drag link. Since the wj knuckles use the seperate tab and it's about 3 to 4 inches closer to the driver side it makes the stock mj drag link too long to use. I could turn it fine to the right but not all the way to the left. So tomorrow I'll make a trip to the junkyard for a wj draglink. But as far as I could tell everything looks like it should work without any interference. Should be able to find out tomorrow once I get the drag link and wheels/tires back on it.

Today I drilled out my rotors. I started by lining up my old rotor on top of the new one and tracing out the bolt pattern with a sharpie marker.

Then I used a small punch and hammer to put a little divot in the center of my marks. Then used a decent size drill bit to get a hole started and finally moved up to the step bit to finish it off. Spent a few hours with my drill and this bit today, and I can honestly say I don't want to have to pick up a another drill again for a while.

And here's the end result. I think it looks pretty sexy on there

Very good looking but bad news, the WJ link will be to long as well. The wj axle is 3" wider, and their stock drag link is longer than ours! You'd have to cut your drag link to length & go from there.
Or measure yours, and then measure a WJ one, but I'm 100% certains its longer as I've had them side by side before!

i appreciate the heads up. if the wj link has more adjustment then it could possibly still work. i'm going to measure it to make sure, if it wont work then i'll probably scavenge the junkyard and see what else i can find that might possibly work.

No problem my man! So I'll need a custom drag link at a minimum, unless you can find something that will work. Hmm..I'd rather have something different than the Stock XJ drag link anyway, cause only 1 end is serviceable. If the knuckle side of the drag link goes, then you gotta replace the whole durn thing!
