Water Pump gasket

Finally got my Xj to start and very quickly found out my WP gasket is done with (spraying fluid). The pump is fine but I need to replace the gasket ,can I buy just a new gasket ? Canadian tire was telling me I have to get a new WP and they dont sell gasket material or just gaskets.

Im also pretty poor so If I dont have to replace it I would rather not.

Thanks Tons
Bean

Edit- Sorry I posted this in the wronge forum

I don't even use a gasket on my water pump. Just RTV. "The Right Stuff" works well too.

Even if I was very poor I think I'd still replace the water pump if I was going to take it off. Beats having to deal with it going out on you later, likely at the worst possible moment. Anytime I've ever seen leaking from that area its always been from a bad water pump, its usually actually leaking out of the small weep or vent hole on the pump body.

RTV does work great, often better than an actual gasket, its just a little messier next time you have to go and replace what ever part your sealing up with it. Let the stuff set up, at least 24 hours if you can wait that long before putting coolant back in the system. I've been in situations where I've had to use RTV and then immediately go without waiting for it to set up and its worked, but its best in the long run to allow it as much time as possible to cure.

I too would replace the pump. You have to pull it all apart anyways and how much would it suck to find out that it was not the gasket after all but actually the pump. I consider it maintenance.

Do it right or do it twice.
