Tailgate latch ?

So I'm trying to find a replacement latch for a mj tailgate. I'm putting an mj tailgate on my xj.

I'm not sure what year the tailgate I have, but the pic is the exact tailgate I have, got it from the JY... So some of you may be able to eyeball the year.

I keep reading the early year s10 latch works, but on this forum I read that's not true, it does not work http://comancheclub.com/topic/34108-tailgate-handle/

I really would love to get a locking latch, like a pull & lock or something.

So what's the best thing to do

Post on the Comanche Club's wanted section for a replacement handle assembly. We love to stock pile parts over there.

Hey thanks.!! If I cant find anything I'll do that but I was really looking for a whole new latch assembly, with a lock like the "pull & lock"

What do people do to lock their MJ tail gates? I know a lot about xj but not reallly much about MJ's.

Thanks again for all the help

You mean lock as in, LOCKED, or just latched?

Maybe a hasp and padlock on the inside? My MJ bed is open to the world. I have a toolbox that locks. I occasionally have a camper shell on it that locks...the tailgate does not lock.

If someone reeeallly wanted to get inside my truck all they have to do is break a window...and all they'd find is a bunch of candy wrappers...and my badge (and some .44 mag shell casings)...same as my Ferrari.

Bottom line is, I don't keep anything in there worth stealing.

Thanks man .. yea I don't keep much but I do like to have something that locks from the outside. Since I'm doorless all the time if I want to leave anything like a jacket in the car, I just like to lock it in the trunk. A lock box inside is an idea for sure, but It would be great If I could just get the tailgate to lock.

you can get a whole new assembly through JC Whitney, you show a couple pictures of tailgates that are not locked, but say,"this is what I am thinking of" does not make any sense......

I'm just talking about the tailgate conversion itself. I have the tail gate, and when I get the rear bumper done the tailgate will go on soon, but I really just need a way for it to lock.
