New to the Jeep/MJ owners world

Just picked up an 87 MJ 2.5, 4 speed, 2WD. Got it cheap and plan on working on it at I go.

I've currently got a set of wheels/tires for it, and doing some general repair work to start. Then a small lift, a few interior things. Afterwards I'm not sure yet.

Drive it and what you save on gas, make it pretty. Meanwhile, drive one with the 4.0L and see if you like that better for the power. I like the added power for pulling trailers and boats. It all depends on what you want. Enjoy your truck.

Thanks for the advice. For now I'm trying to think of ways to get a little more out of the 4 banger for a bit. What are some good modifications to get a bit more out of it?

I believe you have an '86 on your hands.

The "COMANCHE" name badge on the front fenders were only in capital letters for '86. My '87 has the mixed case "Comanche."

Maybe 86 Emblems? Cause the title and registration both say 87.

Yours may be an early 87, with the old emblems.

But, I will correct my earlier post. Yours has the short bed. The SB wasn't offerred in 86.

Another difference that the 86s had were the slots in the grill. The 86 had a 10-slot grill. From 87 until 92, the grills had 8-slots. Count the grill slots.

Thanks man, I have joined over there. Looking at things to do. I'm making my list and slowing getting things done. I think it's come along nice so far. 31s, rust repair and flat black. Thinking when I do the interior inspection and pull everything up I'll make the repairs and go for a bucket switch.

What's the 10th digit in the VIN?
G is 86 and H is 87.

It has lots of stuff from 86, so I'm guessing that it's early in the year. Liking the truck after two weeks. Need to do more to it, but there's always more to do to isn't there.
