altitude

went to Tahoe last weekend and once i got above 4500 feet lost a ton of engine power. Is there any kind of adjustments i can make to prepare for the altitude or do i just need to down shift and drive slower?

Thanks

I have seen it on the axle, but the vacuum. keeps falling off. I read that you can just engage it and let it be. Does this hurt anything over time?
