Need help!!!

hello im looking to put a cherokee rear in my comanche. the reason being is my comanche is a 2.5 5 speed 4x2. it has 4:10 gears in the rear and i would like to put 3:55. i have a rear out of a cherokee with 3:55 in it. will this just bolt right up? and if so what do i have to do to make my speedo work properly again? i have asked a couple guys i know that work on jeeps and they have no idea. someone please help!

Why? The spring perches are on top of the Cherokee and under the axle on the Comanche. Can you weld/fabricate?

yes i can weld. im more worried about finding the right speed gear to make my speedo right.

on a side note has anyone put power window doors on a non power window truck before? im going to tackle that this weekend and was wondering if anyone has done it so the can give me some advice or tips

Speedo gear is not an issue. Can be obtained easily. Why do you want to swap to 3.55s from 4.10s? Think your fuel mileage is gonna increase?

It's gonna go from gutless to downright dogged out with a 4-banger & 3.55 gears.

Yep. I had a 2.5 2wd MJ with 3.55s. Hills sucked. Could hardly use 4th gear.

i do alot of highway driving and was told it would help. think i will probably just stick with what i got. im averaging like 20ish mpg anyway.

I have a 2.5, ax4 MJ base model that the previous owner swapped axles and suspension out of an automatic 4x4 cherokee. So my MJ now sits on the chrysler 8.25 in rear with a nonfunctioning d30 in the front and about three inches
Higher than stock 4x2. He never regeared so its running whetever stock gears came from that cherokee. (from my research, i believe 3.55). I drive it 60hwy/40cty. And I get 24mpg average. However, it has stock speedo gear for 4.10. So my 24 is probably not that accurate.
Also, hills suck, and it's not gonna win any races. But I'm a college student and its a much welcome improvement to fill my comanche once a week compared to 3 times in my 4.3 s10. I honestly don't mind the sluggishness.
Also, he used the comanche spring perches under the cherokee rear.

Edit: the comanche originally came in a feul miser package with a 2.5, ax4, and 3.31? gears. So you must be on to something in your reasoning.

The spring pads are 1.5" offset each side from XJ to MJ. I found that out when I put an XJ 3.73 axle in my MJ and did SOA at the same time.
