I have an 1986 Comanche Custom. Does anyone know what this part is? All my heater hoses go to it the it goes to my heater core.

It allows the coolant to pass through the heater core when heat is wanted, and block it from the core when you want air. I dnt know the name of it though

2 main heater hose's one from the water pump and one return to the engine...
so yes you could remove it, some have homemade valve setup too from the local hardware store...

does the valve work, are you getting vacuum on the main supply to the heater controls in the dash then out to the valve??? i edited the pic to help abit..

They stick shut. I had good luck removing it and cleaning it. The metal ones like yours are pretty hearty.
