the 2.5 is probably the most gutless motor to be put in out trucks, however i have heard legendary stories about their reliability and longevity. 300k, 350k and still going 'strong'. Durability i would assume would also be extremely high. If your looking for power look elsewhere. If your looking for a good reliable engine that will probably outlast you then the 2.5 is golden.

The 2.5 in the wifes TJ has 180K. Still running great.

Gutless to be sure.

I figure it doesn't have enough power to hurt itself.

Well im sorry to say but thats what its in, a 97 tj, im looking to get a new vehicle, the comanche just needs to much work, and this tj already has a certified lift, 5 spd, 2.5 :/, soft top, a winch, 4wd , and a lil more passenger space, and the motor only has 199,000 miles so i think that the way im gonna try goin

If you want a little more umph you can always rear it. Regearing can work wonders for underpowered jeeps. How much are they askin? Got pics??? Even without seeing it i dont think I would pay any more than $1500 and thats pushin it. If its imaculate with good a/c, good 4x4, good everything and the soft top doesnt leak i might consider a little more than $1500 maybe $1700.

Well, if it's in good shape, and seems to run good, go for it. I would check it over real good with almost 200K on it.

Cracker, The only TJ's I've seen for that price are totaled...

3.5K?
Unless it is a rusted heap, I'd say that is a good price. I never see them for under 4K around here unless they are the said rusted heap.

Good Luck. If the 2.5 goes bad, they are a dime a dozen to replace.

my 2.5 in my 9 comanche has 279k and it runs like it is at 50k, my only complaint is the 4-speed man, 5-speed would give that thing a better pair of balls.
