Hey guys. I have no idea if this is the right place to post this and I'm sorry if it isnt. But I'm a 15 year old guy from Alabama who's been addicted to Jeeps ever since my parents bought a Liberty and my brother bought a Cherokee with a complete 6 inch suspension lift and 33's on it. I'm going to be buying my first vehicle in October and I really want it to be a Jeep, but I'm also going to need a pickup truck. So I became very interested in the Comanche MJ, but I've never dealt with an actual MJ and I have alot of questions about whether or not I should buy one for my first truck. If you guys could answer some of my questions, It'd be really appreciated.
Thanks.

I was waiting to see if anyone was even going to reply, sorry. My main questions are 1, is it going to be hard to find a Comanche in good shape that wont need any major work at first? I've got a budget of like $3000 till I get a job... I've heard alot of people talking about certain transmissions and transfer cases that just are not worth buying, I'd rather not have to swap out them right when I buy it. And 2, I'm only 15 and already 5 foot 10 inches 170 pounds, will the regular cab be to small for me?
Thanks.

Yes, it will be hard to find one in good shape.
These trucks are at least 20 years old depending on what year you buy.
3000 is a good budget to get one as they are normally pretty cheap.
I am almost the same size as you. The cab size is OK if you sit normally.
If you are like a lot of young people these days that likes to lean waaay back to where you can bearly see over the dash, you won't be able to.
If you are not mechanically inclined, I would pass as I said, these are 20 year old trucks.
If you do buy one, I'd stick to as new of one as you can. Get a 4.0 engine.
The 2.8 v6 should be avoided like the plague. The 2.5 4 cylinder is a good reliable engine, but is gutless. If you get an auto, it will most likely be the aw4 which is pretty bulletproof.
If you get a stick, get the AX-15 tranny, not the BA/10 tranny. Also check to see if there are any hydraulic leaks in the line or the master or slave cylinder. (Common)
Check for rust under the carpet. (Common)
Go over to comancheclub.com for all the information you will ever need on these trucks.
Good luck!

I got lucky and scored my Comanche for $900 at a slavage auction. Zero rust, 4.0L, perfect running condition, 4wd, long bed, d44 rear. It is a great little truck. Gas mileage is decent, better than either of my Wranglers. I am 6'2" and have plenty of room in there. $3000 is low if you want one in good condition from a private seller. They are getting rare, especially rust-free, so be prepared to look for a while and maybe do some driving once you find one. Mine has the crappy BA/10, but at 116,000 miles it is still going strong. Shifts better than the nv3550 in my TJ, though I doubt that lasts too long.

Thanks for the info guys. I tried Comancheclub, but I'm on a horrible dial-up connection and it wont load the site... I'll try to access their site again sometime when I have more time for it to load. I'm decently inclined in mechanics, Jeep mechanic is what I'm wanting to base my career around. I love working on my brothers XJ. I'm planning on getting an apprenticeship at the main office of Rusty's Offroad so I can have access to some good equipment and experianced offroad Jeep mechanics. I'm hoping to get a 4x4 4.0 I-6 with a AX15 5-speed. If I do purchase a Comanche, I'm going to use it as my daily driver until I get settled and turn it into a pure project truck. I've got a few more questions I would like to ask you guys, since Comancheclub wont load right now, if ya'll do not mind. I've heard about the bed being able to be taken off of them? Would I be able to have a 6 foot and an 8 foot bed and interchange them for when I need the certain capacity? And also what would be the best setup on a budget for 3-5 inches of lift?
Thanks.

Just scored an 88 comanche 2wd 4.0 5 speed with 124k miles. Paid $1275 for it. Floor boards are rotted and some rust holes above rear wheel wells... Needs some work but I love it already. Its a long bed though....but is very useful.

My son bought his used 92 MJ 4.0 5-spd when he was about your age and will probably never sell it. He learned a lot by working on it. He is currently replacing the floorboards. If you can find a nice relatively rust-free one there in Alabama, go for it. Have fun .
