MJ Armor Wish List

I've only had my MJ for about 6 months, so i haven't done a lot of extensive research on Armor and Skid Plates available for the MJ. Before i owned my comanche i had a XJ, and knew a decent amount of what was out there.

So, what i am asking is, Is there any specific peices of armor/plating that MJ owners may like to own? I plan on Making a bunch of things for mine, and i usually produce 3 or 4 at a time to sell and make a profit enuf to make my upgrade free.

I know front bumpers and such are pretty universal considering they are the same as an XJ... and there are tons of plates that cover D30/D35 axles...

What are some things that you can't find?

I am trying to figure out my options also. I would like to see a beefy rear bumper. I found a nice custom one in a guys MJ picture folder on the Comanche yahoo group. I tried to contact him about building me one but he never replied. If you think this is something you would be interested in doing, let me know. I will track down the pics and info. I would insert a pic of it but I am going to have to upgrade my account here soon.

I am seriously thinking of a rear bumper with the spare tire mount that either flips down or to the side like the xj's have. I think it would look really cool and provide more ground clearance since the spare wouldn't be under the bed. I don't want to just toss it in the bed either and with 31's, they would take up a lot of space. Just a thought, and I'd have to see how it looked on the mj before I could say whether I really liked it or not. Just like the idea for now.

It's a piece of junk, but I love it!...most of the time.

I was thinking the same thing in regards to the tire carrier. I'm working with a friend to draw one up. With at least 31's, that's a lot of unusable bed space to take up.

I have checked with several manufacturers, and fabricators. No one makes rear bumpers at this time. I am looking at how to fab up a rear winch bumper for my truck. I have all ready ordered, and it should be here on friday a Rigid co FBW. this is by far the best winch bumper I have found available. The mounting system is by far the best out there. As for rock rails, I have not been able to find any available. I am fabbing my own ones of these using the Rigid co design. Again it is one of the stoutest mounting systmes out there.

As for drivetrain skids. The t-case skids are the same, and so is the engine skids. I also recommend some type os lower CA skid as well as some form of diff armor. I have yet to put any on my mj, but that is only cause I m trying to get other thing bought first.

As for bed sides and tail lights. No one that I know off make either. I ended up fabing up some tail light guards out of expanded metal and angle iron, and it works great. As a matter of a fact some one hit me in a parking lot yeterday in my corner of my truck, and all it did was scratch my paint. cost the other guy to nice dents and a headlight housing

Well if i get a good idea of what would be a kick *** rear bumper, i'm planning on making a few, and perhaps having the option for the tire carrier... lord knows i need one, that 35 takes up a lot of space in the bed.

Won't the tire end up sticking up way past the top of the tailgate? WIll that look weird?

So if you guys have ideas, i'll do my best to make em happen

Next purchase for me... PLASMA CUTTER!!
I Love the sawzall... but gotta upgrade sometime.

By the end of this journey, I may have so much armor on the MJ i'll have to rename her "Tank"

Just a lil advice on tools. A plasma cutter is awesome but extremely pricey for a good one. I have found that I can make the same quality cuts with a horizontal/vertical band saw. I got mine from Northern tools and equipment for 150. Yes it is much slower then a plasma cutter, and not as fancy, but it was a lot cheaper.

I think the rear tire carrier on the back bumper will be an annoyance. I have secured my spare before in front of my tail gate on the trail, and it sucked. It really blocks your view if you have to back up. Which is often the case with LWB jeeps like mj's on tight trails. IF you are running 31'sor 32's you could mount them to the side of the bed, but once you go bigger then 33 it doeacnt look right.

That sounds like an idea... have any thoughts of how to make the sides look good since the bumper is part of the rear fender area? (Where the bumper caps are)
