this Manche is nice... maybe too nice

I'm looking at a comanche project.. I saw this on Ebay and the condition caught my eye and it just looks too nice man.. I'm wondering if it's worth it or if I should go cheaper and ground up one... new motor, new hoses/wires and other stuff..

Personally I would feel bad about beating on a pristene MJ, but other guys don't have such reservations. If I was building a project up, I'd go right for a rusty 87-89 2wd. Cheap as all hell and chances are you'll be swapping out most of the drivetrain anyways, right? Well, I guess that depends on your dreams for this buildup.

same here, all though 2wd or 4wd would depend on how far you intend on going with it, if you plan on going with 44's front and rear or upgrading the font axle to something bigger then yeah go 2wd but if not then go 4wd.

The big reasons why the 2wd 87-89s are the shiz-nite generally applies to the stick-shift trucks with the 4.0L. If you're lifting and putting on bigger tires (even just 31-33s), then you won't want the Peugeot transmission and you won't want the stock 3.07 gears. Swapping to an AX-15 means dealing with a 21 spline NP-231 (meaning chances are you'll need a 23 spline unit anyway). Swapping gears to a better factory ratio is usually cheaper when you just grab junkyard axles. Plus no one should ever sink money into a Dana 35. Grabbing a 4.10 geared one from the yard for like $100 is certainly acceptible though.
See, when you add on bigger tires, the stock Jeep drivetrain starts to show it's shortcomings in a big hurry. Since you'd be replacing most of it anyways, starting with a 2wd generally means a lower starting price and sometimes a less abused rig.

I wish I lived somewhere dry and warm in the winter.

The last comanche I saw around here had more holes than a donut shop.

I have no reservations about beating on a nice clean rig Theres a MJ for sale on a local board that has been hit in the passenger side... The guy is keeping the drivetrain, but only wants 100 bucks for the body

If the body is on decent shape that might not be so bad... build your own drivetrain.

Another thought is that ones going for a premium price. It is in nice condition though. I would think that if your going to replace a lot of parts, you might consider something in less condition. I would say the line would be about the paint condition you desire and if you can paint the truck yourself. Paint jobs usually cost a bunch. A lot of time as much as the vehicle is worth.
Plus, I see a few good condition MJs around me in IN. I'll keep an eye out for ones for sale and post them. I keep driving by a nice red short bed one going into town. I don't see a for sale sign on it though.

its nice, but I would replace the chrome grille with a black one from an XJ... or maybe the whole front clip from a late model black XJ. Looks good otherwise!
