L4 upgrade

just picked up a Jeep comanche today i havent even looked at it it needs a new motor... block is toast and very holy now..
is there a good upgrade? or should i stay stock. would like to use the trans and tcase thats in it...

its a 86 with an l4 5 speed (i think) never even looked at it..
axles are 30 and 35..... any thing special be done to these?
truck will be offroad only....... i paid 150 for it.... basicly needs motor....b

any help wold be great

i have had cjs before still got 1

The easiest would be to get another 2.5L block from any year MJ/XJ/YJ/TJ. Reuse your head and accessories and it should be fine.

get a 6L and put that in it

No. The 2.5L and 258/4.0 do not share transmission bolt patterns.

well duh one is a 6L and one is 4L and the other is a v6

As far as I know, that's a motor based on the old Iron Duke 2.5 (which is completely different than the Jeep 2.5L).
try car-part.com and search for various years of XJ/YJ/TJ The Jeep block changed very little over the years but the part number would have changed here and there so one search may not bring up all of the possibilities in your area.

adapter

with an adapter i believe. just get another block and whatever ya need to put the 2.5L back together. put a 4 to 1 kit in the t-case and go in the woods. have fun!
