Just got a MJ

I recently purchased a MJ that a buddy and I started and he got side tracked due to his shop and other projects. Here is the specs....its a 88 or 89 and has a 2000 XJ powertrain and drivetrain. My question is do I need the XJ fuel pump as well or will the MJ pump run the XJ fuel system being the MJ was fuel injected to?

I think the old system has a return, and the newer XJ stuff is return-less.. You will probably need the pump and fuel line set up.

I am fairly certian you will need the fuel pump from the 2000. In '98, the Cherokees went to a returnless fuel pump. At least my '98 doesn't have a fuel filter. So it would be best to swap in the 2000 fuel pump. I do as PeteM suggest and look over at the ComancheClub or this build thread:
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f22/99-mj-build-881250/
I think the guy removed the pictures, though.

'97 might have been first year. Did my fuel pump a little while ago with bosch replacement, there was no return line, filter in the pump assy.

Please do, also maybe a write up. This might/should help me out. I have been trying to do a swap on my Comanche too. If the returnless Jeep fuel pump will fit in the Dakotas tank. And it will fit in the Comanche, that would solve a lot of problems. There was one buld were the guy fitted the returnless into the Comanche tank, but I don't think it could pickup fuel from the very bottom of the tank.

Mounted dakota tank in MJ, had to space it down a 1 1/2" to clear fuel regulator. Used a old t case drop i had laying around. Went to Lowes and bought 6ft of this strapping material and made longer straps to hold tank up. Goin to see about having a new skid plate built to protect the tank.
