Ignition Lock Cylinder

I recently had to disassemble my entire steering column on my 89 Comanche. I was pretty confident I put it back together properly, but the ignition cylinder wonít engage the starter switch. I pulled the top portion apart again and discovered I am able to engage the starter switch by turning the cylinder post with a pair of pliers. Itís as though the lock cylinder wonít turn far enough. I noticed when I originally re-assembled everything, I could get the starter to engage by manipulating the ignition lock release lever (not sure if thatís the proper term; itís the lever forward of the key cylinder that you depress to turn the key). Any help?
