help!!! alternator

ok so i just replaced the alternator because the rear bearing on th eold one failed. problem with the new one is that every time i get wet such as driving through a puddle the dag on battery light comes on, it goes when the rpms are up but comes back at rest again. what i want to know is what to do with the alternator so not to destroy it.

I would have that one checked, it sounds like there is a problem with it. The problem with the design of the early 4.0 is the way you have to tighten up the ALternator belt. It puts a lot of strain on the bearings for the alt and clutch fan. If you look in the haynes or chilton manual, it has a specific way to tension it. Or you could try and find an alternator that uses a different bearing design and hope you have better luck with it.

If you bought it at one of the Auto Chain stores, then the quality might not be very good. You might check around for local rebuilders in your area. I've always heard that they are a better deal than the parts store. You might also see about upping your amps at the same time.
