Comanche Starter???

I have a 88' Comanche 2WD with an AMC inline 6. I've had the truck for about 2 years and have experienced a problem with it starting. Everything will power on but when you go to start the truck nothing happens. No clicking or anything. I've always just let it sit and then it would eventually start back. Now, it is apparent that the truck will not start at all after multiple attempts. I've tested the battery and it is good. I read the service manual and it most likely points to the starter going bad but I'm not a mechanic so I want to be sure before I buy one. When the truck would start in the past, it seemed like the starter was fine. It didn't seem weak or anything like that. Any suggestions?

Thanks Cruiser. It will be this weekend before I can check anything out but this has been helpful. I should have thought of that. A loose ground would explain the intermittent starting problems...
