check valve on 4wd vacuum lines

OK so my 4wd light was stuck on even in 2wd. Iv just been tinkering with it and found the only way to get it to work properly was to remove the check valve from what I believe is the white vacuum line that is Teed into other lines. One of the lines goes into the light switch. Iv tried putting a new check valve, tried putting it on both ways and the only way it works somewhat properly is to just do away with the check valve.

Will this hurt my truck? Could this explain what the real problem is?

any help would be great.
