Budget Street Comanche Project

After having several Cherokees, I decided I wanted something different. I found this 1988 Comanche with 170k miles. It is a 2wd with a 5 speed manual transmission. It runs reall well and has a solid rust free body.

The plan for this project is to clean it up for use as a daily driver. Here is what i plan to do to it:
97+ front end
repaint exterior
custom interior
stereo (CDplayer and Speakers maybe a small sub)
Bucket Seats

The first step was to tear every thing down.

Interior

Exterior getting ready for new front clip

The first part I worked on was the Interior, most of the panels were faded and the dahs was cracked. So i repainted all of the interior panels and smoothed out the dash.

Finished dash

I built speaker pods for a set of rear speakers in the rear of the roof and fiberglassed them into the headliner.

Building the frame

Fiberglass

Covered in Suede

Next was installing the new fenders and header panel. A new front bumper and fender flares are next but need to wait with a college budget.

Then I took it to a friends body shop to get painted.
Preped for paint

Sticking with black, becuase my friend with the body shop said they could respray the same color for free. Which was an offer i couldn't turn down.

Nice project!

I'm not really a fan of roll-bars, but I'm really digging that setup!

It has a Superlift suspension that the previous owner had put on, I don't know how much lift if any it was. Eventually i want to do an addco sway bar and som better shocks but for now it will be staying how it is.

The roll bar was alos in it when i bought it and at first i wanted to take it out but now i am really starting to like it.

If you run it hard, don't expect that peugot tranny to last very long. Especially with that high of miles on it

Good project, and keep us updated! I'm slowly turning my '88 manche into a street truck. First comes repairs though

Definitely going to get some addco sways, eibach IAS springs, and hopefully some lower profile tires. I'm running some decent 235/70/15's right now

thanks for all of the compliments. it is coming out really nice. Right now it is still in paint, but i went to go look at it and even though it was only ptimed it was looking really good. The next step will be bumpers as i just ordered a set of 01 cherokee bumpers to put on it.
