BA-10 MJ's

Did ALL 5spd 4.0L MJ's built prior to Sept 1990 (when they started the AX-15 in XJ's) have Puegot BA-10 trannies?...or did some of them actually have AX-15's?

I'm lookng to pick up a MJ and I do not want a Puegot tranny. Just wondering if I should completely eliminate any 5spd older then '90.

Ah, I salute you! The puegot tranny are crap boxes.. mine is going out slowly.. lol

As fasr as the years go, I'm not sure.. I beleive Ax-15 was put into 87 ans up MJs. Most 2x4s I've seem had Puegot, Or the AW4.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

My street ruck is an 89 and has the Ax15, but why waste your time shifting gears... Put an auto in it, and call it good (thats whats in my trail rig )

Ah, since mine isn't going to be a rock crawler or anything. I wanna keep my 5-speed, I love being in control of the gears

But if you are going to do rcok crawling, or extreme stuff, isn't it best to put an auto in it?

I have an auto in my current trail rig and it's nice but it needs a 1st gear lock switch. I've found 2 MJ's with autos so far but if I have to go 5spd I'm not willing to deal with a Puegot.

If you go on pirate, or naxja, there is a mj owner on there, who has figured out the solenoids in the aw4, and has a wiring schematic, and info he will sell you to do just what you said.

The thing about running an auto, on the trail is you dont stall, but the bad thing is you have to trun som rpms at times, and once you clear an obstacle, if you letr off you sometimes lose momentum.
