AX-15, NP 231 swap Automatic to Manual

I want to start out saying that this forum has been very helpfull to me and I am glad that I joined. Now I have a few questions in reference to a transmission swap from automatic to manual in a 89 comanche with a 4.0. The engine was originally mated to a automatic tranny with a tcase as well. I want to swap in a AX-15 and a NP231 T case. My questions are,

What year transmission and t case do I need in order to have a direct swap, or is there no such thing?

I have a flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch from a 4.0 with a 2wd BA-10 transmission I believe. Will this work on a AX-15?

Also what is my best bet as to where to purchase a AX-15 and NP 231. Would I be better off buying rebuilt units or searching on for a used pair?

Thanks in advance to all that reply.

I don't know about your flywheel, etc.
I did this swap on my 90 last year.

For what you might pay for the tranny and transfer case, you might want to check into finding a donor XJ.
I picked mine up for $400. Amazed at how many small piece parts I keep pulling from that thing.

I would pick up a new clutch while you have it apart.

You will need the hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinders and the line between them. You'll need the little bracket for the transfer case linkage. They are slightly different from auto to manual.

Go over to comancheclub and check my build thread. (Link in my sig)

I have some pics of the swap I did. Lots of other things I did as well.

Good Luck.

Ok thanks for the info, im going to get a new clutch just wondering if the other stuff was compatible. As for your swap how many miles were on the tranny when uou put it in? Is it still stong or showing signs of wear now that you have had it installed for a while. Thanks for the help

Don't know.
The donor had 180K (ish).
I assume the tranny was original.
No problems whatsoever.

Ok thanks, I found a 95 cherokee parts truck with a AX-15. Does anyone know if this will fit my 89 4.0? Iv heard that the tailstocks are different in some years then others also that they changed the input shaft after a certain year. I am looking to you the bellhousing also, will this bolt up to my Renix or no? Thanks in advance.
