89 commanche, speedometer broke?

Anyone every had this problem? Had an argument with the wife on Friday because I might be get the green cherokee back from my son. Said one of them has to go. No way I said, then Sat. in the paper had an ad for a commanche.
well she want one of these little pickups. So guess what, now we own one.
The man said the speedometer doesn't work, So is there anything I need to check? So far I replaced both door mirrors, vacuum hoses, pulled out a bad radio, and started cleaning up engine.
It is slow to start, needs radiator flushed, battery clean, and speedometer fixed
before We start driving it.

All Renix systems crank a while before they start it is normal and it's the way they work. The speedometer cable could be broken or the speedometer gear on the end of the cable that drives the speedometer could be wore out. The final thing is the speedometer itself could be bad. By the way it's spelled Comanche not commanche... Hope this info helps.

Easy to be a truck. Hard to be a Jeep.

Or the cable could have popped free from the speedo. It just clips on to the back of it.

Hey thanks for the heads up speedometer, the old owner ran a wire to the back of the bed, I think for camper shell. looked like it pulled the speedometer cable out, at lease I pushed it back in about an inch. Tomorrow I will try and reroute the wire. Wouldn't be able to test drive it until next week, insurance and plates.
Sorry for miss spelling comanche.
