My 86 Comanche v6 won't stay running it has little power on take off but acts normal after a couple sec. What could be wrong?

It has the V6?

Seriously - I had an 85 Cavalier with that engine, it's a joke. The 3.1 is a far superior engine, even being the same family!

Either you're having carburettor trouble, or your ignition coil may be on its way out. Take a DMM and check the coil - then heat it up with a hair dryer and check again (heat-soaking can cause goofy things in coils.)

Also, check output at the ignition control module - should be a standard GM part, since AMC bought that engine along with its controls. Heat does even weirder things with solid-state electronics...
