85 cherokee engine swap

I have a 85 model cherokee that has the 2.5 4 cylinder engine that is blown up, i want to upgrade to a 6 cylinder, i'm trying to figure out what size 6 cylinder ( 4.0, 4.2) would swap into this vehicle fairly cheap. I've got a chance to purchase a wrecked 96 model cherokee that has the 4.0 in pretty reasonable. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Neither. Lots of work. Trans is too weak and won't bolt up. The firewall will be in the way.

AX4 or AX5 I believe depending on if 4 sp or 5.
Some of the older ones probably have the Puke Goat.

don't think the 4 popper ever came with an AX15.
If it did, it sure would make the v8 swaps easier.
