84 Comanche Clutch Slave cyl leak

This is my first post so hi to all. Hate for it to be a question but I'm really up against it and searching hasn't revealed the answer so I'm hoping someone can help.

I have a 1984 Comanche pickup with the 4.0 straight 6 and 5 speed. I had a slave cyl leak and replaced it, still leaked so I replaced it again and the master cyl for good measure, slave cyl still leaked so I just replaced it again being extra careful with the seals and everything. started leaking right after I got it back on the ground and bled. this is the internal unit and I'm getting good at pulling the tranny but getting very tired of it. If it makes any differrence been using Auto zone parts and they have been good to give me free replacements but something else has to be wrong. HELP

Also I have heard about changing the internal slave to external, anyone have the specifics on that?

BTW off topic but if you have any firearm type questions I have knowledge in that area and older cars. TIA

go with the real stuff from the dealership. it costs more, but they have quality stuff and when it comes to the internal slaves, quality counts.

Thanks Pete, I will go with OEM for sure. I would just like to make sure I have the problem nailed before I pull the tranny out again.

BTW I can't type it's a 1987 Comanche.

I have also heard that if the the flywheel has ever been resurfaced or clutch changed it could need a shim on the flywheel or the slave will blow. I bought this thing used and started having probs right away so I don't know anything about the history.

Does this sound right to anyone?

If you find out let me know. I am in the same boat. I got an 89, I am changing the master cylinder today and going to the slave cylinder next if I can't make the clutch work.

How hard was it to pull the trans now that you are a pro at it?

Is there such a thing as an external slave cylinder for this rig?
