2.5 engine compatibility

I have a 99 xj with a 2.5 engine and i have a 2.5 engine from an 86 cj7. Will the long block from the 86 which is in excellent cond, work in the 99 using all of the 99 manifolds, accessories, ect. I was told once that it might. long blocks appear very close in appearance. Any ideas ?

CJs used a very different Iron Duke 2.5L engine. XJs used the AMC 2.5L engine
