1988 Comanche charging puzzle

1988 Comanche 2wd 2.5 L alternator won't charge with the tan/black stripped wire connected. with just the yellow wire it charges just fine. It is a Delco cs-130. It won't test at the part store either but they had that pin wired on there harness. I know the tan/blk is the charge indicator light so i am not to worried about it being disconnected. Any ideas about what is going on. On my test bench the alternator will test ok in both plis mode or plfs mode.
