I just bought my uncles 87 comanche 2wd that had the 4.0 i6 but he kept it for his wrangler. I have a 5.2 v8 out of my dakota that got crushed by a tree and im trying to find info on what it would take to put the 5.2 in the jeep. I've seen people put 5.9 v8s in them and the 5.2 and 5.9 are interchangeable so what would i need to do?
Been researching this a bit, as I'm thinking of doing this.... Requires quite a bit. Wiring harness reworked/modified with computers. Beefier coils, radiator, engine mount Fab, exhaust routing, crossmember modification, sheetmetal work, driveshafts.... and more. Would be so worth it!
will the H.O chrysler straight six fit in place of the AMC straight six? I read that they have all the same mounts and hook-ups. does anyone have any insight? and what years and models should i look at getting the motor from? the is a guy with a H.O from his 93 XJ that he is holding for me...will that work?
IIRC a number of sensors are different on the Chrysler version. I think the knock sensor, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, at the very least are different for the Renix (Renault-Bendix computer used in the AMC models). I think the exhaust and intake manifolds changed a few times - but not sure which years. There is a pretty good amount of info in this forum if you search for "Chrysler to AMC 4.0 Swap" or something along those lines. It has been done many times before without too much trouble. While you are in there, you may want to upgrade the cooling system to the newer style without the pressure bottle.
