It's built for an XJ not a ZJ No way you can fit a 12" sub inside the 1/4 panel on a ZJ. I have one built and ready to go with a 12" MB Quart sub in it. PM me if your interested.

Custom Gauge in Ashtray on 97-01 Cherokee XJ

Here is a modification I just did to my XJ. I put a transmission temperature gauge in the area that houses the ashtray. Gaugeplates.com makes a custom plate that fits this area.

I did have to take my dremel saw and cut out the recessed area that houses the actual removable ashtray. However, it wasn't that big of a deal. The gaugeplate then had 3M adhesive tape which I used to seal the plate.

Here are some photos...

The gauge I used was a Sunpro gauge I purchased at Pep Boys. I bought a really fancy gauge from Marshall Instruments but it turned out to be defective. I think the cheap gauge from Pep Boys goes better with the Cherokee Decor anyway.

The gauge is both a mechanical and electrical gauge from what I understand. It can be used for either setup.

Anyone have any idea what the average running temperature and/or low and high temperature range for a AW4 transmission on a 97-01 XJ?

from what ive noticed in mine it will run usually around 140-180 on a warm day, but sitting in traffic sometimes 200+ but then i just turn my fan on and she cools down. but its just like anything else 220-230 i would be worried.

That's a huge range. 200 seems pretty high doesn't it? Im convinced my old transmission blew out because it overheated. I'd like to prevent this new one from the same fate.

Since I put on my transmission cooler mine has been running around 120 degrees on average. I notice it starts to heat up when your idling like you said. I'm just wondering how much it will heat up when towing a small boat (1,800 lbs).

Forgot to mention I'm pushing a front JCR pre runner winch bumper with a winch and cover. So my airflow is restricted some. But I plan on doing hood vents to get rid of the heat soak issue

Woodgrain Dash Trim Console on a 97-01 XJ

I found a woodgrain dash trim console on eBay that was originally in a limited edition XJ. The sides of the panel were a kind of greyish color so I painted them black to match my dash. I like the way it came out. It looks a little bling, but I think it breaks up the black.

What do you guys think?

Gabe

Looks good buddy!! I put a woodgrain dash bezel in my white '95 4dr DD....breaks up the grey.

Nice detail work on painting the grey, black.
