This is a really cool thread with a lot of good ideas.

Here's one I did. For those who have a full size spare up to 32 inches and don't have the $$ yet for a tire carrier or roof rack, you can mount it inside in the stock location for only a few bucks. I had a set of old spring compressor clamps from my old cars when I was in to lowering stuff. Just double nutted them on to the original rod that holds the spare. Trimmed the plastic on the tailgate and it's good. It doesn't rattle either because it rests on the back part of the back seat. And you don't loose that much cargo room.

Eventually got a tire cover and changed out the tool box and now have a small work area when needed. Which is just about every damn week. LOL!

Every single vehicle manufacturer went OBDII in 1996 as federal law.

This looks good, however what are you using for an air filter? You're coming in the box below the factory air filter and bypassing it.

How is he by passing the filter? The air comes in below the filter (like stock), up through the filter and then into the throttle body. I've had mine this way since 2007.

So as I'm removing my grill yesterday, the cover flops down. Only held in by the plastic tabs.

So I superglued some washers on both sides. Whether it will hold is to be determined.

(this was from a previous post, but I thought it might help.)

Cost me $1.50 to do, and it's held up since then.
Just don't tighten it too tight.

Where did the vents come from?

The only dent I've seen put on engine
temps, is by opening the hood. I can
see the vents helping.

if your fan clutch is any good and your stuck in traffic with high engine temps, go into neutral and bring up the RPM it helps a lot with mine it brings it down to 180 within 20 or so seconds.

The clutch works fine. The one thing I haven't tried
is cleaning the radiator fins.

What about the fan override switch, if you see traffic is slowin turn fan on before she starts to get hot and keep her cool, I did it to mine and it works great, no high idle tho, gotta get me a 97+ xj

the exrended idle switch that came stock on some xjs is pretty badass. It kicks the idle up to 1100 when you flip the switch to circulate coolant to keep from overheating and is pretty simple to do.

Some great ideas here, thanks guys

I spent all summer in the 108 degree Texas weather fixing the 92 Honda that my dad bought me in highschool and sold so I could buy a jeep. Let's just say I am now the proud owner of a '98 XJ and can't wait to spend many more 108 degree days doing modifications to it!

I will definitely be doing many of these as I wait between more expensive projects. Hopefully I'll be able to get a build thread started for it soon

You chose a dang good thread to introduce yourself in. Have fun with your new jeep, and make sure to read the stickies to avoid common mistakes and moneypits.
