My v8 304 has a great throaty muscle car sound. Maybe you should try headers.

Nonsense that (for lack of a better term) prolly sounds awesome especially since I would guess you prolly have a slight cam in it, I love the sound of a cam'd v8 that lope gets me every time

If you REALLY want to- cut out the cat converter and clamp some pipe in it's place. That and buy a different muffler that produces a sound you're looking for with a tip that turns down. Pipe, clamps and tip shouldn't be more than say $75 and an hour of your time, wild guess.

I put a magnaflow on mine, it's got a nice sound and not too loud. You could do a turn down just after the muffler or get a glass pak. I've heard a 4.0 XJ with a cherry bomb on it and it was a little loud for my tastes. When he stepped on it you really heard it.
