Tinting lights
I had blacked out tail lights when I had my jetta and wanted to have something similar for my HEEP. Instead of paying $150 for tail lights that i will probably smash eventually, i looked around on the internet and found this, from summit racing:
![]() it is spray on window tinting and runs about $17 a can on ebay and summits site. I figured I would give it a try and this is how it looks: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() what do you guys think? i think that for $17 its not too bad. If you are going to post a response saying that it looks gay just because u hav $200 litedots, then give yourself a gold star and post somewhere else.![]()

Double check at night that they still reflect red. That'll get you the ticket for sure.

The paint is made by VHT. It is actually a tint. If you sand the lense lightly and spray very light coats you can control how dark they get. I have a lot of friends who are LEO and they dont see a problem with them. I have tinted the tail lights and 3rd brake light on my Chevy full size. The truck is a dark maroon and the tails are almost color matched until I hit the brakes or running lights. I picked the tint up at a stereo/ricer shop here in town for 11 bucks IIRC....
A lot of guys in the full size Chevy world use a touch of black mixed in with clear and do their lenses. They get killer shiny and reflective! OP.. I like it, looks great man! Timatoe, yes they still reflect red because they are a tint, NOT a true paint. Couple coats of clear on top helps even more.

If you are worried about them being too dark, go to the local grocery store and ask for some of the plastic slips that hold the sale price signs. Cut them to the shape of the light and spray them with the tint. You can pick up double sticky velcro from the dollar store and you have home made blackouts. If your lights are curved then you can use a heat gun on low and shape the covers to the lights. I did this for my turn signals and side markers, my jeep is black its looks sweet.

There is another stuff made by VHT that is made for "smoking" your tail light's.
It is called Night shades made by VHT. I have used it before and it if very shinny. I had it alot darker and i had a new black truck so it looked like the lights were painted with the truck untill i hit the brake light's. Has anyone tryed this stuff on the soft top window's yet? I would love to try it if it work's. |
