Soft Window Repair!!

So I trolled the internet as usual, seeking low cost effective repairs for soft top/door windows..

I purchased a pair of beautiful OEM door uppers for my YJ for $40.. One however had the notorious tape over crack/cut/rip, no idea what caused it as I purchased them this way..

Finding nothing that satisfied what I wanted, while cleaning my shed I seen my daughters catfish pole, with 25# braided line and it all came together..

First I tried Goof off to clean all the tape residue off, got most off but the balance just would not come off, so instead of potentially scratching or damaging them further, I figured mother nature will remove it in due time.

I stitched it loosely with a heavy needle and the 25# braided line, and used crochet needles to gently/gradually tighten the stitches as I went. When I say gently/gradually, I mean gently and gradually! Too much force or too tight too fast could make the damage even worse.

By the time I got all the stitches in, I went through them about 5 times slowly tightening them, I managed to essentially close the damaged area near perfectly.

I applied LocTite 2 in 1 Tub & Tile adhesive sealant. It has indoor/outdoor rating and pliable.

The end result I was honestly pleased with, it is nearly perfectly clear, the stitches are hardly noticeable, and I anticipate it holding up to weather and abuse with no issues!

So if anyone has the patience, this turned out quite beautifully without having to replace gaudy tape or look at tape!

I just had to repair my soft top window several days ago. My fix was not as nice as yours. I wish I had tried yours now.
