painting a soft top? can it be done?

i got a new jeep but it has a tan soft top. i really want black though. can i paint it? any pictures of people who have? how do i do it with out messing with zippers? and wIndows? or is it best to safe for a new top, even though this one is almost brand new

Fabric dyes and vinyl spray paints are available at most automotive stores and hobby supply stores. Never seen a softtop done, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

ive seen them spray painted looked very nice, ive done it myself on my carpet but it did start to fade, afer a month or so, so i wouldnt suggest regular spray paint.

I used duplicolor vinyl spray paint to color my grey top to black. Worked fantastic. I just masked of the windows and went to it. You will need about 4 cans. I did mine in the spring and it still looks perfect.

I used the duplicolor fabric paint/dye on our old 86 GT mustang ragtop,it was white when we bought it and had a few tears in it but the PO gave me a new black top in the box with it without the rear window,so the rear window was still white,i painted that part of it black.
4 years later and it is still holding up in the Georgia hot sun.

Make sure to scrub and clean and prep over and over before painting,then it will last a long time
