My DIY Lockable Trunk Cargo Cover

A few people have done them, and I did mine yesterday. Locking cargo cover using the tailgate. I used pine as the material and covered it in "hydro-turf" (use on boats and jetskis) Looks good and functions well. Added some eye hooks for strap points and added a small shelf for my rear windows when there removed to put the top down. That way there always with me and secure! I need to add a backing to it and will probably remove the automatic lock from the tailgate so someone can't just break in and hit the unlock button.

Very well done! I like that a lot. The extra shelf for window storage is a really good idea. I'm going to be building something along those lines for my TJ in the next week or so and I might have to borrow that idea for the window storage.

I think you just came up with a ORIGINAL idea! That window storage shelf is great. Way to think out of the box! (Oh, yeah, the hydro-turf looks good too! )

How did you get it around the roll bars?

Couldn't someone break into the cabin and then just fold down the seat? (this is still a great mod, just saying that disabling the auto lock may not get you much if you don't somehow disable the seat folding feature)

I have had people cut my top/windows to open an unlocked door.
Yes there really are people that stupid.
He is trying to keep "honest people" honest.
They will smash a window of they really want in, but he is adding to the time a thief would have to spend trying to steal his stuff so they go find something easier, like my jeep, with a soft top and unlocked doors. So they can cut my top again.

Not that I am bitter or anything.

EdsJunk,
Looks great!

hydro turf covering

Hey I am a new jeep owner and I was browsing through looking at the different trunk covers on here getting some ideas. I saw the one with the hydro turf used as the cover material rather then carpet and I liked that idea a lot. I was wondering how much of it you had to use to cover it with. The website sells it in sheets that are 40"x60". Is one sheet enough? Thanks
