Hmmm but the question is will it pass a inspection or do you just exchange a stock key for the modded one?

I'd recommend setting aside more than "a few days". You realize that you'll need prep time, right? You'll need to call people up & organize a proper work party. Go shopping for beer. Order the pizza/pretzels. Convince the wife to go visit her mother. Put out the safety cones & have an ambulance on standby. And let the neighbors know it's going to get loud & noisy well into the night.
Preparation is 99% of any job. Do it right or not at all.

You forgot the most important step. The step all jeepers think we must do. Get on JeepForum post the question in the proper cordinating forum page to your jeep and discuss it online for a fews days, get options, better ideas ,flamed etc.

I find that in order to make the ink stick, you need to marinate the whole key in rubbing alcohol overnight.

Note: I am not responsible for thsoe who may take this post seriously and try this....

I haven't tried this yet, so I'm not sure about the HP. I am pretty confident that it will be between 10 and 15. At the wheels.

MPG is definitely going to drop with the added weight of materials now. If you were to remove the plastic and black it out along with the rest of the key you may end up losing some weight overall, and increasing the MPG.

I have a sharpie at work that I could use for this, but it is a standard duty model. Will there be any issues using this one?

If you do this mod, make sure you upgrade the rest of the drivetrain. Billet aluminum lock cylinder, high performance brass pins, chromoly striker pin, etc. If you don't want to do all the upgrades right now, at least make sure you properly lubricate the stock mechanism (graphite lock lubricant not WD-40) or you will seize a pin for sure.

Thank you for the great write-up! I just had a few concerns:

(1) How much do i need to extend my bumpstops after this mod?

(2) Will 37's still fit a stock TJ EVEN AFTER this mod?

I am doing this mod tomorrow along with my engine oil by-pass kit! I will no longer have to worry about changing oil! With this kit, the oil never touches the dirty engine! Talk about saving moolah!

PS - If you are not into doing these advanced mods yourself, there is a place to purchase a ton of performance equipment just like the "key mod" above. Check out KaleCoAuto.com. It's hilarious!!

They have a Honda 1" lowering kit for $0.99! Its 4 nails that you place under each tire!
