Either that, or the clips used to hold screens in storm door frames...

Any way here's some pics.

First is it installed. I basically cut the cable to lenght then threaded the homemade bracket down the cable until it what right. Then I bolted it in and was done.

That blue "X" is where I drilled a hole just big enough for a nut and bolt I had.

Good luck,

Those are old style clips that hold in a screen or window in a storm door....not used much anymore

This probably a stupid question. I understand and like the reasoning behind it but Im not entirely sure how it works. but im gonna read this thread and look for some others and im sure ill figure it out. But, heres my question: can this hand throttle be used to act as a cruise control?

Not exactly, it can be used to keep the throttle at a specific spot, not speed.

But that would be dangerous for sure

great use for trail duty but i would not use for CC on pavement. i've had occasion when the return spring does not release the RPMS and the only lower RPMs is to kill motor, lift hood and manually return it. it can get kinked or bound and cause a rare stuck cable, so no, i'd never use it on the road. trail, yes.

That idea about the heavy duty return spring is pretty cool...and I have plenty of bike parts left over including plenty of cables and shifters. I'm going to try rigging one up employing both. If I can get around to this sometime soon, I'll come back and post up some pix of how this is done in a YJ.

Thanks for the ideas and details, folks. This is why JF is so awesome!

Choke cable for a piece of power equipment would be good too. Just pull it out as much as you need it. I've seen them mounted on the dash of rigs to set the min idle.

Way back in the day, I had a hand throttle in a Fiat 850. One day I was alone and got stuck in the snow. I put it in first, pulled the throttle, let out the clutch, got out and pushed...... Almost lost my car as I had to run to catch up with it when it got traction

Agreed! Great for trail use, but absolutely NOT for cruise control! It won't automatically disengage when you touch the brake pedal. The brakes will eventually stop the truck, but it can significantly increase your brake distance.

I did a similar mod a while back. The link is in my sig.
Great for upping RPMs while winching, crawling, On Board Air, etc, as already stated.

As far as using the hand throttle as a Cruise Control, in this configuration it is not driven by manifold pressure, it is simply a mechanical cable connection to the throttle body. It won't automatically increase RPMs when going up an incline, for instance, or reduce RPMs going downhill, and most importantly will not disengage when braking.

With that in mind it is a great mod for the price, you just have to respect the limitations and use it accordingly.
