I'd get some grab handles for the roll bar. They are cheap and useful.

Tow hooks and a good tow strap are a must. A set of trail tools, including jumper cable's. They can all save your butt and help pick up that little hottie in the parking lot with a broke down car or stuck in a snow bank.

This^

Get a good tool kit going to put in the back. I stuff mine with: Jumper cables, U-Joints, Duct tape, Zipties, Pliers, Wirecutters, A socket set, Rain gear, SPARK PLUG SOCKET!!! with plugs and Some non-perishable snacks..

I also keep 5qts of oil, Radiator fluid, a bottle of Dot 3 brake fluid, and a gallon of water.

You will think of things to keep in there when you get out on some trails and say "DAMN!!! I wish i had this right now."

and +1000 on saving money. I dumped a bunch of money on lights, bumpers, and little stuff. I shoulda saved it cause I ended up having to put in a new rear end, shackles, starter....etc...

- Cut your front bumper sides down so it looks more "stubby"

- Look up quick disconnects here in the forum for easier sway bar disconnection

- Go to Lowes or other LHS and look for carabiners for your soft top zippers, makes opening and closing the zippers way easier.

And flat fenders IMO just set off the jeep with a whole different look

was it hard or easy to put those in? i just bought them from harbor freight

DIY sway bar discos are an easy project, and they make a hell of a difference on the trail. here's the writeup I used: Jeep Homemade Swaybar Disconnects
for about $10 you get more flex which gives you better traction (really useful for when you're ALMOST hung up going over a fallen tree) and a much smoother ride on the trail since the front axle takes all the twists, turns, and bumps, not the cab.
With that said, I didn't plan to get into such an expensive hobby either, but after getting stuck so many times, I went out and bought a winch, and then another $100 on the tow straps recovery kit.
have fun, post pics!

Get some grip tape and stick it to your tub beside your skinny pedal. Think of this as cruise control.

Grip tape also works on the tub to protect the doorways. Works great inside the rear tailgate to protect that sill from getting too beat up. I used industrial strength stuff that we use on commercial trucks at work. The sticky part almost took skin off my finger.

Buy a rear brake cable for a tandem bicycle, a bycycle shifter, and a piece of dog-tag chain. Rig this up with some imagination and help from JF threads for a hand throttle on your gear shifter. Replaces the necessity for a third foot that arises from time to time.

Switch to a 25gal gas tank. This takes about a half hour and is a junkyard buy. Might want to have the tank flushed.

Cold Air intake - use your imagination or search JF. It's cheap and it boosts revs if not HP (don't expect huge gains and you won't be disappointed).

Throttle Body Spacer - Increase HP marginally...(about $75)

Replace fuel filter. Cheap and it really makes a big difference.

....just a few things that I have not seen mentioned. Search JF for all kinds of fun facts. Enjoy your Jeep!
