I bought a beat-up 2004 grand Cherokee, and the vinyl dash is majorly peeling up from the front. It doesn't really bother me, but the safety inspectors think it obscures my vision and won't pass the jeep until I fix it.
I don't want to replace the entire dash, because that is more work and money that I want to invest, and I've tried epoxying it back down (it's curing at the moment), but the vinyl is so warped from the Australian sun, that it took a great deal of force to bend it back down, and I fully suspect that when I remove the mountain of huge books that are currently holding it down, it will just peel right back up. Not even duct tape has succeeded at holding ti down.
What I would like to do, is just get a few short, self-driving screws with large heads and shoot them through the vinyl and into the plastic below, but I don't want to screw into a wire, AC line, etc. Has anyone taken apart one of these dashes and, as a result, knows what is right below them? I'd be putting the screws through the very edge of the vinyl (just before it tucks under the plastic piece at the very front of the dash.
Cheers.
