Hrothgar - GREAT idea on those sliding clamps. I went over to a woodworkers store yesterday and picked up a set. I've been looking for something just like that to hold some ammo cans in the back of my Jeep!!

Glad you find them useful. I have a few other things I'll probably do the same to.

Here's something I've been thinking of, and you made me remember it. I've seen wranglers with a spider web design net for the back to keep things from blowing out when the top's off.

I bought 300 feet of 550 parachute cord from an army navy store for other weaving projects for $19.75 with tax.

I wonder if you could cook up your own cargo net with the stuff. I'm working on a spider web design in my head right now.

If you do, you've got to show us. I don't have the talent to weave rope.

First off, I need to get my hands on a wrangler (TJ/YJ). I want to buy one before next spring. If all the stars align and I can get a decent product. I'll go from there on instructions and such.

BRILLIANT!

old milk cartons fit really nicely in the back of the yj with the seat folded down and with a little squeeze with the seat up. i got some for free from a gas station near my house. i keep all my gear for my different excursions (tools, bike shoes/helmet, golf discs, etc...) in the different cartons in my garage and just swap em out depending on where im going. keeps garage and jeep semi organized, and they are easy to add bungies or tie downs to.

Roll Bar Padding(kinda)??

I have been looking for an alternative to regular roll bar padding and thought of wrapping the roll bar in climbing rope. What do you guys think? Has this been done before??

What about pool noodles? Slit them down the length.

Thought about that but I wanted to go for a more sleeker look, something that would last longer to...pipe insulation/pool noodles all seem to break down fast. I thought that climbing rop would last alot longer.

Climbing rope is not going to be soft if you bang your head on it. It is elastic in the long direction, not sideways. It's also really expensive to buy new (between $1 and $3 per foot).

That said, it would probably look really cool.

I'm sure there is some cheaper rope besides climbing rope that you could dye or somethings.

Went on ebay, got a starter disable keypad, sort of like in the movie The Transporter. Mounted it were the passenger air bag disable switch should be, (bought the TJ used, apparently the previous owner didn't want that option), installed a 30 amp bypass switch behind the glove box, just in case the keypad screws up. Works great, plus it's kinda cool punching in a code to start it, just like in the movies. As for waterproofness, it's been rained on a few times, still working great. It cost about $20 or $30 on ebay. plus the cost of the switch, which was less then $10.
