Changing out door handles

I have new black door handles for my full doors- how do I get the old rusty ones out? Thanks!

Take the door trim panel off to access the inside and there are rods connected to the handle to pop off, and the handles are held in with this door chock wedge thingee. They push upward to release and seems to be easier with the door upside down! Kind of a pain, and if I remember correctly the door chock wedge thingee's have notches and there is a spring strap that locks into the notches to keep it into place.
